Hancock Village Volunteer Awarded “Volunteer of the Year”

Jasmine Climer, a volunteer at Hickory Grove and Maple Grove, has been awarded “Volunteer of the Year” by the Illinois Health Care Association (IHCA). The award was presented to Jasmine for her true dedication to long-term care after Leia Morrison, Executive Director of Hancock County Senior Services at Hancock Village, nominated her.

Jasmine, who has Down syndrome, began her volunteer work at Hickory and Maple Grove two years ago as a part of a co-op program from Illini West High School to gain work experience. After the co-op program ended, she decided that she wanted to continue volunteering and has been there five days a week ever since. While volunteering, she helps with kitchen and housekeeping duties, socializes, and participates in activities with the tenants.

Jasmine and her mother, Susan, are both very excited about the award and were humbled to even have been nominated. Leia Morrison stated, “we are very proud of her and it has been amazing to see how much she has grown and come out of her shell. Both the staff and tenants will agree that she brightens everyone’s day with her hugs and loving personality.”

Jasmine accepted her award at a ceremony at Illini West High School surrounded by friends, family, staff from Hickory Grove and classmates.

Hancock County Senior Services has options for senior living. Hancock Village is a campus located on South Adams Street in Carthage, IL. The campus is home to two options for senior living Hickory Grove is a supportive living community and Maple Grove is a memory care community.

Hickory Grove is a Supportive Living Community which provides “worry free living” by supporting residents with who need additional assistance with daily living. Hickory Grove will be adding 20 additional apartments to the campus to meet the needs of our senior population. Maple Grove Memory Community is the first of its kind in the state of Illinois, designed specifically for individuals with memory impairments. The small homelike setting allows the residents to engage in familiar and comfortable surroundings, which remind them of home. For more information about Hancock Village go to hancockvillage.org
