Memorial Hospital is thrilled to introduce additional Lactation Counseling Services with Julie Shoemaker, MS, RDN, LDN, CLC. These services are designed for pregnant women and mothers interested in learning about breastfeeding, those who are struggling with breastfeeding, or those simply looking for support in their breastfeeding journey. These counseling services are designed to provide the necessary assistance, education, and encouragement to ensure a positive breastfeeding experience for all new and expecting mothers.
Shoemaker became a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice (ALPP), a credential that signifies excellence in lactation care. Shoemaker assists women in gaining the necessary skills and knowledge to provide clinical support and management to those who are thinking about breastfeeding, those who have questions during the course of breastfeeding, or those who are simply seeking support.
“Our goal is to offer personalized support to make the breastfeeding experience as smooth and rewarding as possible,” Shoemaker stated.
To become a CLC, Shoemaker completed a 95-hour “Lactation Counselor Training Course” offered by The Healthy Children’s Project, Inc. at The Center for Breastfeeding. This course provided the most up-to-date research-based information and clinical competency validation for delivering professional lactation care.
