Job Summary
This clinical practitioner will participate in providing patient care under the supervision of a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. They should be able to implement and evaluate patient care specific to the age of the patient population served from young children/adolescents to geriatrics. They will ensure that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the clinic’s standards of care. They will demonstrate performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the unit and organization; remains flexible to changing system; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect. They will act as a patient advocate at all times. They will assist the primary provider in all professional and clinical procedures (including phlebotomy, urinalysis, injections, and taking and recording patient vital signs).
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for all patient care activities as directed by a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
- Will receive and greet patients as they arrive at the clinic.
- Will take and record vital signs. A brief description of the patient’s complaint/condition and record this information on the patient’s chart.
- Will assist when directed in performing phlebotomy tests and urinalysis.
- Responsible for monthly duties as assigned.
- Records all pertinent patient information and ensures all necessary forms are completed before patients are seen.
- Will assist in ordering office supplies and forms using the correct requisitions.
- Will maintain the appearance of the office and equipment to assure a positive image and smooth operation.
- Ensures that office hours are maintained, and the public is notified of any variance.
- Actively and consistently contributes to the success of the clinic and objectives.
- Supports the policies and procedures and administrative decisions within the clinic.
- Accepts supervision and feedback in a non-defensive manner, correcting or improving behavior as requested.
- Communicates clinical and equipment problems to the appropriate administrative personnel.
- Knows the patients’ rights and responsibilities and is responsible for the implementation.
- Promotes effective and cooperative relationships with co-workers.
- Continues education through in-service seminars and literature in order to maintain up-to-date knowledge of current trends in operations of clinics and health care in general.
- Assists with documentation of incidents.
- Represents the clinic in hospital activities.
- Ensures that all patients that have a scheduled appointment are seen within 15 minutes of that time or are provided with an explanation.
- Ensure that all appropriate medical charts and information are available prior to each scheduled appointment.
- Organizes files so that information is easily located.
- Ensures that all appropriate signatures appear on the specific documents within each file.
- Ensures that all patient files are kept current with proper information being contained in each
- Utilizes established channels of communication and lines of authority for problem solving
Required Qualifications
- Must have current state licensure.
- Must have current Basic Life Support training.
