A group of 24 students from a Hamilton High School health class recently visited Memorial Hospital’s Health & Wellness Teaching Kitchen, where they prepared Cottage Cheese Blueberry muffins. Working in pairs, the students followed a recipe, used food scales, and practiced a variety of cooking techniques.

Under the guidance of Memorial Hospital’s Registered Dietitian Ashlyn Housewright and Chef Amber Clark, the teaching kitchen provided an engaging way to reinforce lessons from multiple subjects, including math, science, and reading, while also emphasizing the importance of teamwork.

In addition to baking, the students learned the essential skill of frying an egg and prepared other Halloween-themed snacks. The class was divided into two groups, with one half working in the kitchen while the other planned a game of Nutrition Jeopardy led by Registered Dietitian Julie Shoemaker, incorporating questions based on their health class lessons.
